What Can You Do About Guilt and Regrets?

--
Guilt stems from something hurtful you may have said or done.

Regrets are "wishes" for something you could have said or done and did not do or say.

SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO

Make one list of everything you feel guilty about and a separate list for everything you have regrets for. Examine your list and ask yourself these questions:

a) For what reason am I punishing myself?

b) When I punish myself is it possible that I am hurting other people?

c) Am I willing to let go of some or all of my self-punishing behaviors?

d)And if I am willing, when will I let it go?"

  • Write everything you feel bad about on a balloon and let it go.

  • Write down the good things you said and did and read it to yourself often.

  • Write a letter to the person who died, telling them all of the things you wish you could have done or said and apologize for things you said or did that you feel bad about.
